Welcome to Science!

Welcome to 8th Grade Science!  My name is Julie Michaels, and I will be your science teacher this year.  I'm looking forward to working with you!

8th grade science takes an integrated approach to science by touching on topics in Astronomy, Geology, Biology, Ecology, Chemistry, Physics, and the Nature of Science.  Because of this, you won't have a chance to get bored!

I am a 1993 graduate from CAHS.  After high school, I went to the Washington Hospital School of Radiologic Technology to become an X-ray Technologist.  I graduated in 1995 and began working at Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, WV.  After working in this field for a number of years, I decided to return to college to pursue my first love, teaching.  I left my job in Morgantown and accepted an X-ray position with Highlands Hospital in order to be closer to home while I went back to school.  In 2001, I began at WCCC, then later transferred to California University of Pennsylvania.  I completed my Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2005, and my Master's in Advanced Studies of Secondary Education in 2009.  I worked for a short time at St. Vincent College in their environmental department, but was hired by Connellsville School District in January of 2006.  I was placed in Junior High East, now known as the Middle School, where I have been teaching science ever since.

I married my husband, Paul, on 08-08-08.  We have two children, Aaron and Sydney.  When we had our second child, Sydney, we were presented with a very unique challenge.  Sydney has a rare genetic disorder that causes severe seizures to occur, among other things.  We have had to adapt our lifestyle to fit Sydney's many needs.  Sydney has a service dog, Lexus, who helps to detect her seizures.  Sydney has been my greatest teacher in life.
I will close with sharing my favorite quote that I have relied on often the past few years.
Let's have a GREAT YEAR!  Go Falcons!
